The tea drinking revolution began at mono in 1983. In 1980 Tassilo von Grolman was invited by the Rosenthal Studio Frankfurt to lecture on the design and functionality of teapots.
He had to conclude that for the optimal preparation of tea one actually needed two teapots. One to steep the tea in and another pre-warmed pot into which the brew is sieved. This was a most frustrating conclusion for the tea drinking designer, and the subject became almost an obsession. After a sleepless night he came up with the inspired design for the mono teapot. A glass globe and an oversized stainless steel sieve made it possible to achieve perfect tea preparation in a single teapot. The revolution was on.
The tealeaves have ample room to expand and develop their full aroma in the fine mesh stainless sieve. After removal of the sieve, the tea is ready for drinking, no transferring to a second pot, no bitterns, simply pure enjoyment.
While often imitated over the years, the original mono teapots continue to garner devotees. On the occasion the 20th anniversary mono introduces a limited edition (600 pieces) of the tea caddy. This special version documents the history and usage of the mono teapot, is signed by Tassilo von Grolman, and is a numbered limited edition.
A true collectible for the few lucky ones.
