The German Post Office issues postage folios honoring design in Germany and selects outstanding design objects to grace a series of stamps. The first folio was issued in 1998 depicting items from the Art Nouveau and Bauhaus periods. The theme for the folio issued in 1999 was German design in the post-war era.
The mono-a flatware designed by Peter Raacke is shown as one of the most successful exponents of contemporary tabletop design. The other honorees include the HF1 Braun AG television set designed by Herbert Hirche in 1959; the „pearled“ bottle designed by Günter Kupetz in 1969, still in use today as a returnable bottle for soft drinks; and the Transrapid magnetic monorail designed in 1984 by Alexander Neumeister for Thyssen-Henschel.
